The beginning of Lent schedule
As we celebrate Christ’s birth we are reminded by everything we have to be thankful for at St. John’s Lutheran! Yes, that’s Dianne Malone on the ladder decorating St. John’s Christmas tree! Bob Malinsky is lending a helping hand! We celebrate our ministries which include our Sunday Worship, 4 pre-schools (CCDC) and three ethnic Worship groups (Sudanese Nuer, Sudanese Community Church and the Burmese Church)! Yes, we have been busy this year. Our new school at 1432 South, 11th East is set to open this winter. We are doing the Lord’s work in the downtown Salt Lake City neighborhoods!
We invite you to join us this holiday season as we celebrate Christ’s birth!
Christmas Eve Service (Candlelight) is at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday December 24th
Christmas Day Service is at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday December 25th
As of the end of August 2019 St. John’s has new paint and carpet in our Chapel! It is a wonderful upgrade that we have waited for years to see happen! The Chapel has a new look and it’s beauty is stunning to the eye! What a wonderful place to worship God! Sit back in the pew and take in the stain glass windows that radiate as the sun shines into the Chapel! Or just sit back and contemplate God’s presence in his House! A special thanks to Pastor Hank, his wife Dianne, Larry and Joni and all the volunteers who made this happen! Oh, by the way, two of our pews were moved up into the Chapel Choir loft to make way for wheelchairs up front to improve our ADA accessibility! Combined with our elevator lift and ramps outside and in the basement we have reason to be proud! God Bless St. John’s Lutheran in Salt Lake City!
St. John’s retired long time Pastor Bob Schrank passed away peacefully on Thursday June 13th. He was St. John’s Pastor for 19 years and leaves behind an extended family and many friends in the LCMS fraternity. He worked in the mission field in Guatemala out of the seminary and then was a Pastor in El Paso, Texas before moving to Salt lake City in 1976. He became our Pastor at St. John’s and had a wonderful career that influenced many families who he nurtured during their times at the Church. He was always one of the crowd who was a Pastor first and a good friend to all. He was an avid downhill skier, cross country skier, bowler and camper who loved to mingle with his flock at St. John’s. He leaves behind many found memories and countless baptisms, confirmations and weddings in his time at St. John’s. He is survived by his loving wife Joan, five children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services at set for 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 21st at St. John’s Lutheran at 1035 South, 5th East in Salt Lake City, Utah. A reception/celebration will follow downstairs after the service. He will be missed by all. God bless Pastor Schrank.
